Bio
Dr. Arielle P. Crumley is a singer, musicologist, and educator based in the North Georgia area. Dr. Crumley holds degrees in vocal performance from Brenau University and Georgia Southern University. A soprano, she performs regularly throughout the North Georgia area as a recitalist, church singer, and member of the professional choral ensemble Pro Musica.
Though her background is in vocal performance, Dr. Crumley maintains a passion for scholarly research and writing, and she holds a PhD in historical musicology from the University of Georgia. She is particularly interested in researching topics that intersect music, literature, and gender, and her doctoral research drew from her specialty in vocal repertoire in a study of song settings of the erotic poetry of Pierre Louÿs. She is currently writing her first monograph, Gender and Sexuality in Song Cycle Settings of Les Chansons de Bilitis, which will be published by Routledge as part of the Routledge Research in Music series.
As an educator, Dr. Crumley has taught classes in music history and appreciation at the University of North Georgia and the University of Georgia, and she currently teaches voice, vocal pedagogy, and music history at Brenau University. For over a decade, Dr. Crumley has taught private voice lessons, working with students of all levels and in various styles, including classical, musical theatre, and contemporary. She currently has a growing vocal studio at the William Pu Music Academy which offers private lessons for all ages.
In addition to music, Dr. Crumley also has experience teaching writing. She previously worked for UGA’s Writing Intensive Program where she received training in writing pedagogy and helped students develop writing skills through individual mentoring sessions and class workshops. Dr. Crumley currently serves as a reviewer for the Woodland Writers writing challenges where she provides developmental feedback for short stories in the fantasy genre. She has long been an avid reader of fantasy and science fiction, and she is currently working on a project that she hopes will expand into a science fiction series.
Dr. Crumley currently lives in North Georgia with her husband and three cats. If she is not singing, teaching, or writing, you can find her dancing to K Pop, tending to her garden, or getting lost in fantastical worlds in books or video games.
